How Is CGPA Calculated?

CGPA = (Sum of Grade Points × Credits) ÷ Total Credits Earned

Example: If you have 5 courses:

Course 1: Grade A (8 GP) × 4 credits = 32

Course 2: Grade B+ (7 GP) × 4 credits = 28

Course 3: Grade A+ (9 GP) × 4 credits = 36

Course 4: Grade B (6 GP) × 4 credits = 24

Course 5: Grade A (8 GP) × 4 credits = 32

CGPA = (32+28+36+24+32) ÷ 20 = 7.6

Converting CGPA to Percentage

IGNOU does not officially publish a CGPA-to-percentage formula, but the commonly accepted calculation is:

Percentage = CGPA × 9.5

So a 7.6 CGPA ≈ 72.2%
